this entry has no real beginning in my mind so this is it. I thought I would write down my impressions of New Orleans since I have been living here close to half of the time. Parts of New Orleans feel like a normal city - mostly everything is open though they may be on new reduced, Katrina hours and a few stores did not come back. Other parts are clearly broken - though the signs of rebuilding are clear. Here and there you see the black line. Finally you have the desolate area such as the ninth ward and lakeview - and others where the line doesn't exist but the destruction of the levees breaking is obvious. The city feels wounded but the sense in New Orleans is more of a rebirth of the wild west. A city that was once so lazy and slow has become a city where everyone has some place to be - to work - to fix. The city is now filled with pick-up trucks and vans from all states. New Orleans is now a city where you can make a lot of money quickly. A million dollars if you play your cards right. It has attracted people like me who want to see whats happening. Even the restaurants have their unusual percentage of newcomers waiting tables. It's that New Orleans charm - it's a free for all.
