we are always on the verge of no return [Sep. 13th, 2006|11:22 pm]

I believe I have come to a conclusion of sorts as to why the republican and religious right irritate me to such an extreme... it is the fact that things are ever evolving. Not in just the biological stand point but also in all contexts of human life. One of the keys to what makes humans unique is the ability to share thoughts and ideas and our ability to build upon our own thoughts and others. All things that we create and spend our time thinking about evolve since that knowledge is passed on. Therefore, the idea that we should go back to old "values" or thoughts is ridiculous since there is no going back. Even your idea of what is the old values is false because you are looking at it from a modern stand point. You have seen the progress of humanity and have knowledge of the modern world therefore you can only assume what it was like to be in the time of your old values and any attempt at following these will be from a modern recreation inherently not true to what actually existed. Therefore the thought that we could possibly return to any old values is ridiculous.... it goes against human nature and is impossible. One can certainly learn from mistakes and attempt not to repeat them but there is no returning.
